Rust Foundation Fellowshipsとは？
Rust Foundation Fellowshipsは、Rustコミュニティーに積極的に貢献している人が以下のようなサポートを受けられるプログラムです。
- 12ヶ月間、毎月$1,000の奨学金
- 関連性のある有益なRustに関連したイベントへの参加を支援するための上限$2,000の交通費手当
- 上限$2,000のスキル開発への支援
応募の仕方
2023年の募集では、ざっくり以下のようなフォームを埋めて応募しました。
Rustでの開発経験について
Please provide some background about yourself and your experience with Rust.
For example:
- How long you have been involved with Rust
- Details of any teams/working groups you may be a member of (where applicable)
- Links to example pull requests you have submitted (where applicable)
- Links to examples of code reviews you have carried out (where applicable)
- Any Rust-related materials/public writing you have done (where applicable)
- Details of any Rust-related events you have been involved with (where applicable)
- Details of how you participate in the Rust community (virtually or in person)
Fellowshipの期間中にやることとそれがRustプロジェクト・コミュニティーにどのような影響を与えるか
Please tell us about how you propose supporting the Rust project during your Fellowship year and what the benefit of your work will be for the Rust project and the wider community of users.
自分の場合はバックグラウンドとしてはcompiler contributors teamのメンバーとしてのrustcの開発経験とその他OSS活動、Fellowship期間中の活動としてはrustcのdiagnosticsとconst関連のfeatureに貢献するといったことを書いて応募しました。

最後に
rustcへの貢献を含むOSS活動にはGitHub Sponsorsで主に個人から寄付を頂いています。いつもありがとうございます。
今回はそれに加えてRust Foundation Fellowshipsとして報酬をいただけるようになったということで非常にありがたいです。今後も積極的にrustcへ貢献していきたいと思います。
また、応募の際にはChatGPTに助けられながら文章を作りました。カンファレンスなどに参加はしたいけど、プロポーザル書くのが面倒で結局参加しないことが何度かあった自分としては、文章にしたいことを箇条書きにしてそれを元に応募に適した文章を作ってくれるのは非常に助かりました。
